PNG, JPEG or WebP?
PNG is a useful choice for transparency and graphics that need lossless pixels. JPEG is widely used for photographs but does not preserve an alpha channel. WebP supports both lossy and lossless encoding, including transparency.
The smallest file is not always the right deliverable. Check the formats accepted by your website, client or application before converting.
Convert without losing your source
Open the official Squoosh app, choose an image, select an available output encoder and inspect its comparison view. Adjust quality or dimensions for the intended destination and download a separate file.
Check fine text, edges and gradients at the size the image will be used. Keep the original for future exports. This directory does not run a converter or accept uploads.
Conversion is not a layered-file workflow
A flat image export does not preserve the editable layers of a PSD. Converting a photograph to SVG does not automatically turn its contents into paths.
Be deliberate with transparency: if you export a transparent PNG to JPEG, choose the background appearance you need. Check color and metadata handling in the actual tool rather than assuming they stay unchanged.
Questions, answered
Is the converter built into this page?
No. The action opens Squoosh on its official site.
Can JPEG have a transparent background?
JPEG does not provide an alpha channel. Use a suitable format such as PNG or WebP.
Does converting a PSD preserve layers?
A flat image export does not preserve PSD layers. Keep the layered source separately.
